The Twitter discovery is important. If I want to understand a word, or better yet, a (coloquial, idiomatic) phrase, I just search for it on Twitter and I find a bunch of native speakers using it naturally, and in various situations. Twitter is especially useful because, unlike other sources like newspapers, it is close to how people actually speak. So it's good for learning natural speech. It's a good supplement for the newspaper.
